The Challenge: Turning AI into a Shared Asset
Motor Oil recently launched an AI Center of Excellence, making AI a cornerstone of its strategy and future growth. To truly integrate AI into the organization’s DNA, they needed to overcome key challenges: closing knowledge gaps, fostering enthusiasm, and quickly delivering impactful ΑΙ solutions.
The company set ambitious but well-defined goals:
• Ignite AI Enthusiasm: Turn AI into a shared asset embraced across the organization.
• Build AI Skills and Culture: Equip employees to confidently use AI for daily tasks and innovation.
• Showcase AI’s Potential: Demonstrate how AI can achieve what was once impossible.
• Drive Business Impact: Leverage AI tools to unlock high-value opportunities. Seamlessly integrate AI into workflows to boost efficiency.
Motor Oil aimed to do more than adopt AI—they sought to make it a catalyst for growth and a competitive advantage.
The Solution: Building AI Literacy, Culture, and Collaboration
To jumpstart AI adoption, Motor Oil joined an early access program for Microsoft Copilot, gaining hands-on experience a year ahead of its release. This was paired with a foundational special training led by Microsoft to selected employees, nominated as AI champions.
Motor Oil then partnered with Satori Analytics to create the AI Garage, an innovation hub designed to spark curiosity, foster learning, and drive engagement. The initiative launched with a high-profile event featuring global keynote speakers from Microsoft, live AI demos, and strong sponsorship from top management.
Key highlights of the AI Garage:
• Champions Network: 35 employees from 8 departments (from Legal and HR to Finance and Commercial) acted as AI ambassadors, driving a grassroots movement for adoption.
• Weekly ‘Show & Tell’ Sessions: Open forums showcased practical AI use cases, inspiring collaboration and fresh ideas and establishing a data-first mindset.
• Hands-on AI Training: Employees gained hands-on skills in responsible AI, AI prompting techniques, custom and out-of-the-box generative AI tools.
• Dynamic Engagement: Updates through a dedicated intranet hub and ad-hoc sessions kept AI Champions ahead of the curve, spreading innovation throughout the company.
• Prototyping & Experimentation: A dedicated team spent 1,300+ hours on rapid prototyping, embracing a “fail-fast” approach to drive learning and embed AI into daily work. The handful of failed experiments served as valuable learning experiences.
• Low-Code Development for Impact: In just 7 weeks the AI Garage team delivered 7 custom AI Tools utilizing low-code platforms such as Copilot Studio (now Copilot Foundry) and OpenAI’s latest models.
This collaborative approach made AI a shared, practical resource and laid the foundation for sustained innovation across Motor Oil.
The Results: Embedding AI into Motor Oil’s DNA
By embedding AI into the company’s DNA, Satori Analytics enabled Motor Oil to achieve a scalable, sustainable AI strategy with tangible outcomes. The AI Garage became a launchpad for Motor Oil’s transformation, generating ideas and tools that embedded AI into the organization’s DNA. With Satori Analytics as a partner, the initiative delivered measurable results and a scalable, sustainable AI strategy.
• Structured AI Use Cases: Developed 15+ use cases across departments, with 2 scaled to production, impacting over 2,500 employees.
• Unlocking AI’s Potential: Invested 1,300+ hours in experimentation to uncover the "art of the possible," laying a clear roadmap for Motor Oil’s AI journey.
• Practical AI Tool Exploration: Tested 9 AI copilot tools, including Microsoft CoPilots, pinpointing where they add the most value in daily workflows.
• Widespread AI Adoption: Over 300 employees and counting now use CoPilot tools, backed by the AI Champions Network, driving a culture of innovation.
• Rapid Prototyping: Delivered 7 AI tools in just 7 weeks, leveraging low-code platforms like Copilot Studio and Power Automate for agile implementation.
